HOT TOPICS SIMULATIONS™

In a matter of several hours, Hot Topics Simulations challenge students with real life ethical dilemmas that guide them to master a practical decision model.

By working to solve real world dilemmas from multiple ethical perspectives, our simulations teach participants about their own values. Students also consider how the interests of other stakeholders impact the decision process. All of the EthicsGame's simulations are easy to mix and match and can be integrated into a standing syllabus.

HOT TOPICS SERIES

Everything from investor fraud to false advertising is explored in these short and engaging ethics scenarios that teach not just ethics, but stakeholder theory and The Baird Decision Model. Students learn to defend their decision making and voice their own ethical values in a comprehensive writing assignment for each dilemma.

The dilemmas are drawn from current, cutting-edge business, health care, education, and student life scenarios and include issues of integrity, privacy, plagiarism, whistle-blowing, investor relations, religious expression, conflict of interest, and others.

HOW THE HOT TOPICS SIMULATIONS WORK

EthicsGame simulations teach students how to recognize ethical situations, analyze multiple options for action, identify the best solution, pause for reflection and communicate the solution to interested stakeholders. Performance data supports at least three learning outcomes: Students view an ethical dilemma from multiple perspectives Students learn to consider stakeholder impact while making an ethical decision Students articulate their own process for making a decision in a written assignment

HOW TO USE THE HOT TOPICS SIMULATIONS IN YOUR SYLLABUS

The Hot Topics Simulations can be easily customized to specific course content. They can be used as a stand-alone instrument or in combination with the ELI and Ethics Exercises.

Testimonials

Hot Topics forces students to think out of their own ethical box. The four lenses reflect the basic approaches to decision making in a diverse society.

Pearson Liddell, Ph.D.
Professor, Mississippi State University

Students enjoyed being forced to look at ethical scenarios from multiple perspectives. As working adults representing various levels of management (including executive), they expressed appreciation for the diversity of thought the simulations provide. In addition to learning a new framework for making decisions, they felt the experience added to their abilities to manage ethical conversations in the workplace from a position of consensus vs. conflict.

The EthicsGame simulations facilitate the study of ethics systemically. The treatment of the topic is unique and is beyond what can be provided in a text book.
